Trek to Upper Mustang embarks from Jomsom, the district center of Mustang. Upper Mustang trekking starts from Pokhara and combined with the alternative route of Jomsom. The natural and cultural diversity begins once the trek embarks through the Kali Gandaki valley. The beautiful Tibetan Buddhist ethnic communities at Kagbeni, Tcharang, and Lo-Manthanthang are the real base of cultural exploration. The centuries-old monasteries, colorful chhortens, antique cave style communities and the wonderful hospitality allure the trekkers all over the world. Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu, transfer to the hotel.
Welcome to Nepal. Nepal Hiking Trekking company representative receives you at the airport and transfers you to the hotel. You will be given a short briefing about the programs on the following days. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 02: Sightseeing in Kathmandu.
After breakfast at the hotel in Kathmandu, enjoy your sightseeing tour around Kathmandu city. Three sites can be included in a day tour. Pashupatinath (Hindu temple), Boudhanath Stupa and Swayambhunath are three UNESCO listed world heritage sites for your tour today. If you have another choice, that will be scheduled. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 03: Drive to Pokhara by tourist bus (6 hours).
In the morning, the tourist bus leaves at 7 am. So, you need to report the bus station at 6.30 am. Through the winding road of Prithvi Highway, you will get chance to see the lifestyles of local people and views of Trisuli River throughout the Highway and also the green hills. Reaching Pokhara, transfer to the hotel and rest. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 04: Fly to Jomsom and trek to Kagbeni (2780m).
The morning flight from Pokhara offers you the amazing Himalayan scenery of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri massifs. Landing at Jomsom, meet further crew (if you have porters) and commence the trek through the Kali Gandaki River, which is about 3 hours continual walking to reach to Kagbeni. It is a gateway of the restricted Upper Mustang. Overnight at lodge.
Day 05: Trek to Chele (3050m).
After showing the restricted area trekking permit at the checkpoint, the gradual trek embarks through the isolated towns of the Upper Mustang region. The antique houses are whitewashed and people live traditionally. Heading through Tange, pass the Chhuksang and descend to the Riverbank. Another 30 minutes walk leads to Chele. Overnight at lodge.
Day 06: Trek to Syanbochen (3475m).
Beginning the trek from Chele, today's walk goes through the Taklam La Pass as you climb through the steep uphill route. Another couple of passes as Dajori La and Yendo La Passes creates the steady pace of the trek. But the local surroundings are breathtaking. The Syangbochen village lies on the step ahead, which is today's destination. Overnight at lodge.
Day 07: Trek to Ghaymi (3520m).
The journey from Syangbochen begins with an ascending towards the 4010 meters pass at Nyi La Pass. The dramatic Himalayan peaks of Annapurna (10th highest peak in the world) and Nilgiri amazingly allure you. Another pass of 3765 meters of Ghami La steadily leads to Ghyami village, which is a beautiful Tibetan Buddhist town in Upper Mustang. Overnight at lodge.
Day 08: Trek to Charang (3490m).
Beginning to walk from Ghyami, the longest mani wall of the Upper Mustang lies on the trail. The red cliffs throughout the trail offer different scenery that you usually see in another part of Nepal. Passing Dhakmar heads towards Tchharang gradually and takes a rest. Overnight at lodge.
Day 09: Trek to Lo Manthang (3730m).
The wonderful trek from Chharang to Lomanthang embarks through the red cliff zone. After a steady walk, you reach a hill ridge, which offers a far view of the stone-walled town of Lomanthang. Then descend and walk continuously enjoying the diverse wildflowers. The antique and historic Lomanthang allure the trekkers around the world, who are interested in cultural exploration. Overnight at lodge.
Day 10: Explore in Lo Manthang (3700m).
Exploration around Lo Manthang is an exciting day trip to this ancient town, which is dominated by the monasteries, Chhortens and typical antique houses. The Tibetan Buddhism has truly flourished in Upper Mustang Lomanthang. Namgyal Gompa is another side trip destination at Tingkhar village and back to Lo Manthang. Overnight at lodge. (Tiji festival of Lomanthang is widely renowned throughout the world).
Day 11: Trek to Drakmar (3819m).
The excursion from Lomanthang begins heading from the stone-walled town of Upper Mustang. Walking through the dusty trail (as the trail is sandy, whenever the air flow comes, it becomes dusty), cross some passes of 4280 meters (Chogo La) and of 3950 meters (Dhi La). Another Pass Mui La also lies on the way after crossing Ghar Gumba. Then, walk gradually to Dhakmar. Overnight at lodge.
Day 12: Trek to Ghiling (3806m).
After breakfast, the journey from Drakmar begins through Drakmar. First, cross the hill ridge pass of 4025 meters and enjoy the cultivating scenery of barley and buckwheat fields. Then, descend gradually that leads you to Ghiling and take a rest. Overnight at lodge.
Day 13: Trek to Chhuksang (2920m).
Embarking from Ghiling after the breakfast, the steadfast trail leads through Syangbochen. Heading continuously, you cross small passed of the hill ridges and Chele comes on the way. Walking through the narrow gorge of the sandy rock, Chhuksang lies ahead and rest there. Overnight at lodge.
Day 14: Trek to Jomsom (2710m).
From Chhuksang, commence the foothill journey to Jomsom after breakfast. Walking through the Jharkot, explore the monastery lies in its way and continue to trek to Kagbeni, which is an exit point from the restricted Upper Mustang region, Then, walk gradually to Jomsom and rest. Overnight at lodge.
Day 15: Flight to Pokhara.
The early morning flight to Pokhara from Jomsom offers eye-catching Himalayan panoramas of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri range. Landing at Pokhara, transfer to the hotel. You have the whole day to explore the Pokhara city. Boating in Phewa Lake is another outstanding program. Overnight at Hotel in Pokhara.
Day 16: Drive back to Kathmandu.
With 6-7 hours bus drive, you reach to Kathmandu through the Prithvi Highway. Transferring in the hotel, you have the rest of the time for your personal use. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 17: Final Departure.

The Upper Mustang trekking and hiking feature a combination of in-town meals and meals prepared by your guide. We'll have dinner at carefully selected, wonderful restaurants in Kathmandu as well as meals prepared on the trail by your guides and/or support staff, and meals in our evening tea houses/lodges.
For optional taste and energy, we get fresh vegetable from their garden. The owner of the lodge provided us fresh and hygienic food. Most of the Vegetables are cooked by soya bean oil and Butter. We request you Please, be vegetarian while you are at Trekking and hiking.
You need to supply with you a couple of gear items on your hiking tour. These items are two 1-liter water bottles per person and basic items like sunscreen, headlamp, Mobile / Camera charger, lip balm, and toiletries are also important.
Please, bring warm and wind proffer Jacket and trouser, Sleeping bag, require hiking shoes or hiking boots, of reliable brands, rain gear, 4 or 5 pairs of wool or synthetic hiking socks are also required. For more details, check equipment list or contact us.
We were used Dambar's services as a guide on three occasions over the last 12 years to the Annapurna and Everest regions and most recently to Upper Mustang. I would be happy to recommend him to others looking for a reliable, well organized and conscientious arranger and guide for their trek in Nepal. He gives good advice on itineraries and can plan and reserve internal flights and hotels in advance as required. He also has good knowledge of the formalities (trekking permits, insurance) that you need and has arranged these without any problems at all.
