Kailash with Mansovar Lake
Kailash with Mansovar Lake

The 14-day Lake Manasarovar tours are situated in the far southwest of Tibet and the northwest of Nepal, within the Tibetan region. The area is bordered by the high Himalayan mountains to the south of Tibet and the north of Nepal.

Mt. Kailash is a separate peak aloof from other great Himalaya ranges at 6,714 m (22,028 ft) above sea level. It is a striking-looking mountain with four impressive cardinal faces. Mt. Kailash, where four of each side’s directions resemble the east as crystal, the west as ruby, and the south as sapphire, with the north face as gold.

Mt.Kailash Tour and Lake Mansarovar are on a vast Tibetan plain, listed as the world’s largest and highest plateau. Also, tableland, where the average altitude is from above to above 4,000 m, is a big concern for altitude gain.

The symptoms of thin air can be acclimatized by taking things slowly with overnight stops at certain heights to recover from high-altitude sickness.

The 14-day Mt. Kailash and Lake Mansarovar tour starts from Kathmandu (some can join at Saga town after visiting Lhasa in Tibet), heading north close to Mt. Langtang range, Mt. Manaslu, and Mt. Ganesh Himal at Rasuwagadhi, the frontier of Nepal, to enter Tibet.

The journey takes you past Saga and Paryang towns through many farm villages, crossing the high pass of Mayam-La (5,050 m) to reach the vast and holy Manasrover with views of Kailash in the north and the Gurla-Mandata Mountains in the south.

Manasrover Lake

At Mansarovar Lake, enjoy scenic views of peaks and the large lake considered the holiest spot. Some can drive around the lakes for about an hour, staying here to worship and pray as well as dip or bathe in the sacred waters of Mansarovar.

After a great spiritual moment at Manasarovar Lake, a short drive takes you to a busy town at Darchen. It is located south of Mt. Kailash; the place is flooded with pilgrims during the high season of the Saga Dawa festival, with Indians, native Tibetans, and some foreign visitors.

Then, downhill to Machu Valley towards the east of Kailash, past Zutul-Phuk, go to the southern end of Mt. Kailash, complete the sacred circuit, and then drive back to the border at Kyirong to enter Nepal.

Boundless Adventure sent you a jeep or bus to Kathmandu via the Karung border. Reaching Kathmandu with memories of a glorious journey on Mt. Kailash and the Lake Manasarovar Tour is a genuinely spiritual trip and an adventure to experience once in your lifetime.

About Rakshastal

Rakshastal is a brackish lake in China that lies in the Tibetan Autonomous region. The lake is west of Mansarovar Lake and south of Mount Kailash. The Rakshastal is at an elevation of 4,575 m/ 15,010 ft above sea level and covers an area of 250 square km (97 sq mi). The Sutlej River ( also named Langqen Zangbo) flows northwest of Rakshastal.

The name of the lake means “Lake of the Demon”. The lake is also called Ravan Tal as there is a belief that the demon of Lanka, Ravan has done severe penance on the lake. The Tibetan people named the lake Lagngar Cho or Lhanag Tso, meaning “the dark lake of poison”. Furthermore, due to the flora and fauna around the lake, its lifeless surroundings led Tibetans to call it the “ghost lake”. To avoid unfortunate accidents, visitors are said to be respectful while visiting the areas.

Rakshastal consists of four islands: Topzerma, Dola, Lachato (Nadzhado), and Dosarba. The locals of the area use the Island as a yak pasture during the winter. Travelers who go for Parikrama of Mount Kailash should pass through the Rakshastal.

Despite the name and mythological associations, Rakshastal is a pleasant and calm lake that adds to the spiritual charm of the holy area around Mount Kailash. Both tourists and pilgrims who go for spiritual experiences at Mount Kailash visit the lake and appreciate the area’s natural beauty.

The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra is adventurous due to its high altitude, and rugged terrain. However, the tour is mostly by travel or any means of transportation, so it is not very challenging. Yet, the risk of acute mountain sickness is a concern. So, being physically fit and properly prepared is necessary for touring. Additionally, choose an itinerary plan that involves an acclimatization plan, as acclimatization is crucial.

Throughout history, Mount Kailash has been shrouded in mystery and steeped in legends. The man-made pyramid shape, never-melting snow cap, the unclimbable mountain of Kailash, very little wildlife in the Kailash area, Swastika and Pravat symbols during sunset on Mount Kailash, and Lord Shiva’s face on Mount Kailash are the major mysteries of Kailash.

Generally, from the beginning to the end of the journey, it takes 12 days for the Mansarovar Kailash yatra. Yet, the duration varies depending on your chosen itinerary. Furthermore, the duration depends on whether you choose to trek or tour, the specific route chosen, the acclimatization schedule, and any extra activities involved during the visit.

Yes, pilgrims and visitors can take a bath in Mansarovar, and people consider bathing there auspicious. Devotees believe that taking a bath in Mansarovar purifies the soul, and bathing there is an essential part of visiting Mount Kailash. Since ancient times, Rishis and Munis have used to take baths at Mansarovar before Mount Kailash.

As Mount Kailash Mansarovar Yatra is in the Tibet Autonomous Region of China, you will need to obtain a Chinese visa to visit the region. Additionally, you need to obtain a Tibet Travel Permit, an Alien’s Travel Permit, a Military Permit, a Foreign Affairs Permit, and an Inner Line Permit for Mansarovar Yatra. But worry not, we can manage and help you obtain each peppermint for your tour.

To get a Tibet visa, the time varies depending on factors including your nationality, the type of visa you are applying for, and visa processing times at the Chinese embassy where you submit your application. Yet, we’ll process your visa, and within a minimum of 5 working days to a maximum of 10 days, your visa will be issued.

Buses are the most common means of ground transportation for the Mansarovar Yatra. Jeeps are also available for the tour, yet buses are mostly used. The tour combines traveling and hiking at certain points. However, most of the tour is by bus. An aircraft facility is also available for the Kailash tour.

Since Mount Kailash is within the region of China, Chinese are allowed to travel to Mount Kailash. Chinese citizens can go to the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, visit Lake Mansarovar, and explore Mount Kailash, just like pilgrims and travelers from other countries. Nevertheless, Chinese citizens also need to obtain the necessary permits before starting a tour of Mount Kailash.

Within 1 day, you can complete the Parikrama of Mount Kailash. You’ll get a horse ride at the first stage while going for Parikrama, get to Rakshas tal and then start hiking for Parikhrama. One day is good enough for your Mount Kailash Parikrama.

Self-discovery Mount Kailash tour

As a devotee of Lord Shiva, I came to Nepal for a visit to Pashupatinath Temple. Then my one friend offered me a Mount Kailash tour, as he was about to go with his three other friends. For the devotees of Lord Shiva, a chance to visit Mount Kailash is like a blessing.

I was informed that Boundless Adventure in Kathmandu is handling our arrangements for Mount Kailash. As we were in a group of 46, we got the tour package at a reasonable price with a discount. The tour was indeed amazing. Besides the tour, the management for our tour was top-notch.

The tour of Mount Kailash was a journey of self-discovery and spiritual renewal. I am grateful to Boundless Adventure for providing us with an unforgettable tour experience on Mount Kailash. Also, I am thankful to my friend Syam for offering me a tour.
