Mustang trekking lies in the hidden rural valley of Mustang region. It is in the center north of Nepal, which is near to the Tibetan border.Mustang trip is a third popular trekking destination in the world. Mustang, from Tibetan terms Mun Tan, means fertile plain. It is the former Kingdom of Lo. The route goes through valleys, desert land, tough cliffs, and deep canyons. It is surrounded by the barley fields, sheep’s and yaks grazing meadows. The trail follows the historic trade route, especially of salt between Nepal and Tibet.
This trekking provides fabulous mountain views of Dhaulagiri (8167m) and Annapurna I (8091m). Due to its location in the Himalayan rain shadow area, the main trekking season is conducted during the monsoon season. The maximum elevation is 4660m above the sea level. Lo Manthang, “the last forbidden kingdom” is closer to Tibet in the settlements, culture and civilizations. Secluded from the modern world, it is rich in its own distinct lifestyle and unique heritages which makes the trekking more interesting. People have settled in this area some thousand years ago, though it is located in remote and untouched part. Hidden information about the ancient civilization is more helpful to discover the real facts of this restricted area. The surrounding landscape is enclosed by strange rocks and cliffs, deserted land territory and ancient caves. A trip to the Mustang region pass through ethnic villages, Buddhist monasteries of fifteenth centuries ago. Here are mystifying geography and breathtaking panoramas. Jomsom is the administrative headquarter of this district. A Special Mustang permit is needed for restricted area.
