Upper Mustang Trekking

Mustang Trekking

Upper Mustang trekking lies in the hidden rural valley in Mustang region. Upper Mustang is in the north central area of Nepal, which is near to the Tibetan border. Mustang region is a highly praised trekking route in the world. Mustang, from Tibetan terms Mun Tan, means fertile plain. It is the former Kingdom of Lo. The Mustang trek goes through the valleys, desert land, tough cliffs, and deep canyons. It is surrounded by the barley fields, sheep and yak grazing meadows. The trail follows the historic salt trade route between Nepal and Tibet.

Trekking in Upper Mustang provides fabulous mountain views of Dhaulagiri (8167m) and Annapurna I (8091m). Due to its location in the Himalayan rain shadow area, the main trekking season is conducted during the monsoon season. The maximum elevation is 4660m above the sea level. Lo Manthang, “the last forbidden kingdom” is closer to Tibet in the settlements, culture and civilizations. Secluded from the modern world, it is rich in its own distinct lifestyle and unique heritages which makes the trekking far incredible. People have settled in this area some thousand years ago, though it is located in remote and untouched part. Hidden information about the ancient civilization is more helpful to discover the real facts of this restricted area. The surrounding landscape is enclosed by strange rocks and cliffs, deserted land territory and ancient caves. The trek to Mustang region is passing through ethnic villages, Buddhist monasteries of fifteenth centuries. The mystifying geography and breathtaking panoramas attract you very much. Jomsom is the administrative headquarter of this district. A Trekking permit is required for Mustang trip.

Trek to Mustang goes along the Kaligandaki River. Buddhist Gompa, Stupa, fields of wheat, barley and buckwheat, Ni Lya pass (3850m), impressive Tibetan culture are the attractions on the route. The Boundless Adventure Company with experienced guides lead you to the historical place of Mustang. Please, feel free to contact us for more information.
